The Why Leave Town (WLT) Murgon Gift Card program:
In January 2022 the Murgon Business & Development Assoc. Inc. launched the WLT Shop Local Program which is an EFTPOS based system aimed at keeping money within the community by encouraging people to shop locally.
How does it work?
When a customer purchases a Why Leave Town Murgon Gift Card, the holder can buy goods in any participating store that's part of the program. The cards cannot be used outside of the participating shops. This means that every time a card is purchased, the money stays local. The gift cards can be used across multiple stores in our town and are the perfect gift for those ‘hard to buy for’ friends and family members, or perhaps as gifts for staff members or as prizes/raffles for clubs.
As little as $10 to as much as $1000 can be loaded onto a single gift card. The gift card amount can be spent a little at a time or all at once. The cards are single-load only which means that additional amounts cannot be loaded onto the card after the initial purchase. All transactions work through Eftpos terminals which means that redeeming goods and services with the WLT Gift Card is the same as making an Eftpos purchase with your bank card.
All funds that are loaded onto the cards are stored within a separate trust account. No funds are held by Why Leave Town Promotions, the MBDA or the participating businesses. This is vital in protecting the value of the funds for the card holder. The trust account sits with Cuscal, the largest independent provider of payments solutions for the Australian financial services sector.  The cards expire after 3 years from purchase, in line with government legislation requirements.
How can I purchase Gift Cards?
  • Visit any one of the 5 load-up Stores to purchase your Murgon Gift Card.
  • Choose an amount to be loaded – Minimum $10 up to $1000
  • Pay for the load-up amount using Eftpos, or cash.
  • Your card is ready to gift.
Spending your Gift Card:
  • Your card is like cash so keep it in a safe place.
  • Go shopping in any of our local 40 participating stores.
  • Cards need to be swiped through the Eftpos terminal. Instructions are on the back of your card.
  • The amount loaded onto your card will expire after 3 years.
  • Once the money on your card has been spent, it cannot be reloaded so then please dispose of the card.
  • It is wise to register your card using the online form on the Why Leave Town website. When your card is nearing its expiry date you will receive a text message or email to remind you to use up your funds. You can also order a replacement card if you were to lose your current one.
  • For full gift card terms and conditions visit the Why Leave Town website.

*If your businesses has a Postcode of 4605 and you would like to include your business in this program, contact the MBDA at murgonbusiness@bigpond.com
